Portfolio
From bootstrapping products at an early stage startup, to leading design for media sharing at WhatsApp as a Senior Staff Product Designer, to independently developing little apps, I’ve spent over a decade designing and building useful, usable software.
Senior Staff Product Designer2021–present
As an IC design lead across WhatsApp's consumer org, subscriptions and more, I supported and mentored 20+ designers, covered product management, and shaped strategy with reviews at VP/Executive/CEO level.
I launched WhatsApp's first consumer subscription adding premium stickers, themes, custom app icons and more, while the core of WhatsApp stayed free. As design IC lead, I co-led definition of the paid feature set with PM, designed the features, and held the project to its reviews, budgets and timelines working with cross-Meta teams & partners.
I designed HD media sharing for 2 billion people on every kind of device and network, announced by Mark Zuckerberg in August 2023, with defaults and friction that protect users' experience on slow connections and help them avoid low storage. In 2025, we took this further: Live photos support and HD by default in specific markets to meet competitive pressure.
Took visual sharing from 2-year decline to growth
I redesigned media sharing, removing 2 steps and making multi-select simple. Via 30+ experiments, I built alignment with leadership on hard trade-offs with other messaging actions. This lifted photo, video & overall message sends – one of the year's most impactful consumer projects. 20+ teams now build on the media picker and editor flows this established.
As the senior design IC on WhatsApp's expression strategy group, I led sprints and prototyped new kinds of user expression – like AR effects, selfie reactions and stickers, and more. I led a strategy reviews with WhatsApp's leadership to align on bets which shaped roadmaps across 5+ teams for 2+ years to follow.
I took Sticker Maker, which turns photos into stickers in a few taps, from a prototype with engineers to production. I also redesigned sticker search around GIPHY and added suggested packs, giving users the perfect reaction or meme at their fingertips. This new inventory boosted the WhatsApp stickers ecosystem significantly, to +10% y/y growth by the end of 2025.
Together, measurable lifts in photo, video and message sends. Alongside bigger launches, I led a steady stream of design-led improvements, including a document scanner that turns scans into a PDF shared in chat, tools to free up storage space and manage chats in bulk. These projects provided valuable utility, and reduced out of storage errors for users.
As part of a broader push to make WhatsApp expressive, I took AI stickers from a concept to a spec, aligning teams across Meta's apps and generative AI to unblock engineering ahead of a tight launch deadline. Describe the sticker you want, and WhatsApp generates four to choose from and send straight into the chat. Launched at Meta Connect 2023:
Status is WhatsApp's stories feature, used to share updates with contacts, mostly outside Western Europe & North America. I modernized it with link sharing and voice updates, part of a package critical to keeping it relevant, especially in markets with less emphasis/literacy for writing. These updates were announced in February 2023.
Soon after joining WhatsApp in 2021, I worked on simple, private and secure 2GB file sharing that works with the diverse network conditions of WhatsApp's global user base. I designed loading states, ETA communication and error recovery experiences designed to make every message send clear. This launched in spring 2022.
Messenger
Senior Product Designer2021
I worked on Facebook Classes as part of the Messenger team for 9 months in 2021. I led the team's work on the classes "marketplace", supporting teachers to create and promote classes on Facebook, and supporting learners to discover and register for classes they're interested in, then join the conversation in Messenger. I collaborated closely with designers and other partners across Messenger and Facebook teams to guide learners and teachers to connect in a class chat and a video call. (Facebook Classes isn't yet available in all countries.)
Workplace from Meta
Product Designer2018–2020
I worked on Workplace Chat as part of the Workplace product team at Facebook from 2018-20. In this role, I collaborated with other designers to design chat for small and medium sized businesses, redesigned chat navigation as part of a broader Workplace rearchitecture, and product-managed and led design for the Workplace Chat mobile apps for a year.
During the shift towards remote working in 2020 caused by the coronavirus pandemic, I worked with a small team to design and build live video tools for businesses using Workplace to keep their employees connected and share critical updates. I led the design of Live Q&A across platforms, and designed Workplace's video call product, Rooms, on iOS.
Yavi
Product Designer2016–2018
In hospitality and retail businesses, miscommunications about staff scheduling are frequent, causing frustrated staff to miss their shifts and costing businesses money. I worked with the small start-up team at Yavi in Edinburgh from 2016-18 to design, build and scale a product focused on improving scheduling and team communication for shift-working teams.
Side Projects
Your Week is a focused planner I designed and built based on my own process for setting priorities at the each start of week and tracking progress towards my weekly goals. I wanted the app to feel simple and reliable, integrate with common workflows, and encourage a moment of celebration when you achieve your goals. The visual design emulates a traditional, reliable, leather-bound planner. It's available for free on web and Android.
After spending time designing marketing software in 2016, I decided to build a tool for small businesses who wanted to engage customers via social media with videos and GIFs, but didn't have their own high quality media to share. Shout is a tool for making GIFs and videos from your own images and text. It's intended to be simple to get started with, but a powerful tool for creating marketing content when you have mastered it.
In 2016, while on holiday, staying with family, I realised that it'd be really valuable for me to know more about my grandparents' lives and their stories. I designed and built Timeline as a way to record their memories, with text and images. Over the past few years, my parents and grandparents have built up their timelines with important moments from their past.
HRU is a little app I built to solve an important, but simple problem: it can be difficult to talk to people – even the people you're closest to – about how you're feeling, and ask for a helping hand. HRU provides a safe space to share your emotions without comment or judgement. The app is intended to feel simple and expressive, making space to acknowledge your feelings and your loved ones'.
Earlier Work
I joined the Wonderloop team as a Communication Designer, defining how the video profile product should be marketed to a young professional audience. In this role, I designed for online marketing and in-person events, such as meetups with popular creatives and Vine stars. My role grew to include front-end engineering, including the Wonderloop website and web app. The ability to share a video profile link played a significant part in increasing organic growth.
